Dr. Margaret Anderson

Practice Owner, Veterinarian

Dr. Margaret Anderson has loved horses ever since she was a little girl. That passion simply never wavered—she’s always wanted to help pets in whatever way she could. Dr. Anderson was only 13 years old when she decided that she would one day become a professional animal doctor! Now, she’s proud to better the lives of pets and animal parents as the lead veterinarian and owner of Benson Animal Hospital.

Dr. Anderson is originally from eastern North Carolina and grew up in the mountains of Asheville before moving to Raleigh for her collegiate studies. She attended North Carolina State University for her undergraduate coursework and was then accepted into the University’s veterinary school—Dr. Anderson completed her studies in 1988 and has been a practicing veterinarian ever since. She has particular interests in surgical work and preventative care, but her favorite part of the job is educating pet owners about their beloved companions’ health and wellness needs.

When she’s not helping pets and animal owners here at the hospital, Dr. Anderson enjoys reading mystery novels, visiting national parks and zoos with her family, and enjoying the company of her own pets at home. Along with her husband, Anthony, and their two daughters, Erica and Amilia, Dr. Anderson shares her life with five cats, a pair of dogs, two potbellied pigs, a guinea pig, a turkey, and a chicken!

Dana Danger

Office Assistant, Kennel Assistant

Dana has owned pets all her life, and she was a client here at Benson Animal Hospital for many years. When she was looking for a new opportunity in the summer of 2015, a position opened at the clinic, and Dana jumped at her chance. She’s been here ever since, and is proud to serve the area’s pets and animal parents as a member of the hospital family!

Dana attended North Carolina State University to earn her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and has worked in the scientific field for more than 20 years. Now, she helps out here at the hospital on weekends, and especially likes caring for pets who are boarding with the clinic. In addition to her responsibilities here at Benson Animal Hospital, Dana is very active with a local animal rescue organization and finds that her hands-on experience here at the hospital helps with all of her animal welfare efforts!

When she isn’t helping pets to live happier, healthier lives, Dana likes spending time with her menagerie of animal companions at home, gardening, snow-skiing and kayaking, and traveling. She even owns a creek-side cabin in Virginia and loves to visit when the weather is nice.

Maria Pierce

Receptionist

When Maria was growing up, her mother used to foster strays and help them find forever homes. This sparked a passion in her that would ultimately shape her career path. In high school, she took animal science and veterinary assistant classes, which further deepened her desire to one day work with animals. Today, Maria is living her lifelong dream and loving every minute of it!

Prior to joining the Benson Animal Hospital team, Maria was volunteering at another local vet clinic. When she saw a position become available here, she jumped at the chance to apply and was hired. Professionally, Maria enjoys scheduling upcoming appointments and welcoming clients and their animal family members. She also enjoys answering questions and helping out in any way she can.

Outside of work, Maria lives with her parents and their five dogs: Max, Zeus, Rocky, Mina, and Rudy. They also have a pet chinchilla named Rosie. Aside from her love for animals, Maria has a passion for learning new things and is currently enrolled in college. When she’s not busy working or studying, she enjoys visiting Topsail Island with her parents and spending time with her animals.
